Where can you ride snowmobiles?

Snowmobiling isn’t just an activity for high altitude and mountainous terrain. In fact, people snowmobile in various landscapes all around the world, but in this article, I’ll just be covering the United States. Although you can technically ride snowmobiles anywhere there is sufficient snow, 26 states have official snowmobile trail systems. That means out of the 50 states, you can ride in over half of them! You can find a list below that has each state listed with a general description of the riding terrain. 

Eastern Region

A lot of rolling hills, snow-covered trees, and beautiful scenery. A solid mix between woods riding, fields, and lakes. Some areas get a lot of consistent and deep snow, but many other areas face seasonal variations that leave some years better for riding than others. It’s best to do your research before you plan your trip to make sure the area you plan to ride will have sufficient snow when you show up. In my opinion, this area is home to some of the most fun trails if you go to the right place at the right time. The variable terrain in this area is sure to make for an exciting ride every time. If you’re riding in NY, I suggest checking out the Tug Hill Region for some of the most consistently good trails in New York State. Mid West Region

Lots of frozen lakes, flat areas, deep snow, and amazing scenery. Each state varies in terrain in this region, but some are considered to have the best trail riding in the country. Western Region

Big mountains and backcountry riding is their specialty. These states Have the obvious allure of the mountainous terrain, but it also offers ample trail riding. If you’re looking to find some deep pow, breathtaking views, and test your abilities, this is your place.
